Acrylic is a rigid plastic sheet that stays dimensionally stable indoors and takes a polished edge, which is why it became the default for interior signage that needs to look considered. It can be printed directly, reverse-printed for depth, or backed with an opaque colour. Unlike glass it will not shatter, so it is safe at head height in a public space.
